What is TrashTab?

TrashTab is a simple debt tracking app that helps you keep track of money owed between friends and acquaintances.

Does TrashTab require an internet connection?

No, TrashTab works entirely offline. All your data is stored locally on your device.

Data & Privacy

Where is my data stored?

All your debt records are stored locally on your iOS device. We don’t have access to your data.

Is my data backed up?

Your data is included in your regular iCloud backups if you have iCloud Backup enabled. For additional safety, use the Export feature to create manual backups.

Can I export my data?

Yes! Use the Export feature to save your debt records as JSON files that you can store anywhere.

Usage Questions

How do I add a new debt?

Tap the “+” button on the main screen, enter the debtor’s name, amount, and other details, then save.

What do the status colors mean?

  • 🔵 Unpaid: Debt is still outstanding
  • 🟢 Paid: Debt has been repaid
  • 🔴 Bad Debt: Debt is unlikely to be paid

How do I mark a debt as paid?

Swipe left on any debt in the list and tap “Mark as Paid” or edit the debt and change its status.

Can I import data from another device?

Yes, use the Import feature to load JSON files that were previously exported from TrashTab.

Troubleshooting

I lost my data after updating iOS

Your data should be preserved through iOS updates if you have iCloud Backup enabled. Always export backups before major updates.

The app crashes when I open it

Try force-quitting the app and reopening it. If the problem persists, reinstall the app and import your backup file.

Export/Import isn’t working

Make sure you’ve granted file access permissions when prompted. The app needs permission to access files for these features.

Can I sync between devices?
